Larue Country Rocked by Corruption, Scandals

There is something desperately wrong in Larue County, as corruption at the highest levels in the recent past, as well as the scandals surrounding the LCHS Principal and high school and middle school girls' basketball teams calls to our attention the need for a moral assessment of the people of Larue County itself, of which I am one, and those vetting candidates for positions that can have a profound effect on the children of Larue County.


The first thing we need to do is to call upon God for repentance for our failures, and from there examine what we must do to turn this despicable situation around.

It's outrageous that we vote in or appoint these types of people to lead in some capacity in our County, and if the corruption or scandals aren't enough to do some soul searching before God, then we'll deserve the type of people we allow to influence our local government and children.

As for the moral failure surrounding the school system, parents should seriously consider taking their children out of it. For many years it has taught that which opposes the Bible and our Christian faith, and the recent outrageous events confirm not only the reality of that worldview, but that those embracing it are getting bolder and bolder in acting it out before our eyes.

What will it take to turn this situation around? It needs a dramatic reversal of how we view the leaders we put in place, and call upon God in Jesus Christ to help us find those that are representative of His laws and serve the God of the Bible. Anything less than that is too little. It's obvious that it's already too late.

There is also the need to examine closely those, in the case of being hired by the school district, as to why the vetting of these people is missing so much of who they are.

The best thing to do with school is to remove our children from the system that opposed our world view and train them ourselves, or get together and create an alternative to the school system which will train our children up according to the Word of God.

If you don't think the Larue Count school system is in opposition to the teachings of the Bible, you need to go through the books and computers used to train the children up. I've done it. They don't represent the Holy Scriptures.

As usual the response of many will be there are some good Christian people teaching in the school system. And that is true. But that has nothing to do with what our children are being taught as a whole, and the types of people that are being placed in authority over them.

If the corruption and scandals don't move you to action, then Larue County is already lost. 

Kentucky School Safety Bill Focuses on Mental Health, Safety Drills

The majority of House Bill 354, which deals with the issue of school safety, targets the streamlining of existing practices, including the improvement of drills and safety plans, security as part of the architecture of the school buildings, and better communication with the police.

Also very important is the inclusion of mental illness being a big part of school safety. To that end the bill would mandate that the Kentucky Department of Education work on being able to better communicate with school concerning the past behavior of students, and for them and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services to work on empowering school employees to recognize and give aid to those students with mental health problems.

Unfortunately, the defense of last resort - armed and trained school personnel - wasn't mentioned in the bill, as that is what would really save lives if someone is able to enter school grounds or buildings with murder as their intent.

That should be squarely faced because there is no way for the majority of Kentucky schools to have trained law enforcement officers on hand. Less than 20 percent of the schools in Kentucky have on staff as of this writing.

The bill received unanimous approval, and now goes to the House to be taken under consideration.

Kentucky Senate Passes "Safety Drill" Bill

An odd bill was passed by the Kentucky Senate dubbed Senate Bill 8, which requires schools in the state to have safety drill two times a year where the classes will take place in classrooms that are locked. Doors into the school will also be required to be locked during the drills.

The bill, which was passed by a 37-0 vote, will be sent to the House for approval. For some reason a similar bill was filed in the House, even though the one that passed is already on its way.

According to Sen. Mike Wilson, R-Bowling Green, the bill that passed in the Senate is based upon recommendations coming from the Kentucky Center for School Safety.“School safety, security, involves so much more than just locking the school down,” he said.

Schools will also be required to put emergency response plans in place and update them on an annual basis. One part of the plan that must be performed is to have only a single access point to a school with secondary exits for backup safety.

All of this is fine, although largely irrelevant. It's just a show bill so politicians are seen to be doing something about school safety.

The best and only real deterrent is to have some administrators and teachers trained and armed so they can quickly and efficiently end any threat to the students or their colleagues.
