In a somewhat odd but interesting lawsuit, the Ohio County Industrial Foundation is fighting back against an appeals court decision to allow the name of bluegrass legend Bill Monroe to be used in The Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass Music Festival.
The Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass Music Festival is a nonprofit organization which is seeking to use the name of Monroe to promote their festival while offering tours of the home of Monroe on western Kentucky.
A lower court decision to forbid the use of Monroe's name in the Festival was reversed after an appeal. Now the Ohio County Industrial Foundation has petitioned the Kentucky Court of Appeals to get another hearing concerning the matter.
I'm not sure how any organization could stop the use of the name of anyone, especially in regard to promoting tours of the actual home he lived in while alive.
The lower court ruled that Ohio County Industrial Foundation holds the intellectual property rights to Monroe's name, which empowered them to stop the Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass Music Festival from using it for the Festival and to promote the tours of Monroe's home.
