The unemployment rate in Kentucky for 2012 showed some improvement, as in comparison to 2011, it dropped from 9.5 percent to 8.2 percent, according to a press release from The Office of Employment and Training.
The OET said those numbers are reflected in the 28,800 jobs created in 2012. Unfortunately, the report didn't say how the rate was affected by those that simply gave up looking for jobs.
States surrounding Kentucky did better and worse in 2012. Indiana and Illinois had higher unemployment rates than Kentucky, while Tennessee, Virginia, Missouri, Ohio and West Virginia fared better, as their rates were lower than those of Kentucky.
Of the nation, including the District of Columbia, Kentucky was ranked the 19th highest in unemployment, based upon an annual metric.
